A newborn baby needs up to 12 changes in a 24 hour period.
I would recommend that you get at least 15 nappies and 4 wraps if you are prepared to wash and tumble dry every day. So add a few on if you line dry as it takes longer...say 20, and if you only want to wash every other day you could be needing up to 30!
This sounds like a lot of nappies, but bear in mind that your washing machine has a finite size so you are very unlikely to get more that 15 nappies in at one time. The nappies should be washed at 60°C so can be put in the washer along with babygrows, muslins, bibs and sheets etc. Having a baby means that you would probably be washing every day anyhow. Including the nappies means that you will be doing full rather than half loads.
An older baby will need only 6 or so nappies a day.
Therefore you could probably get away with 9 nappies and 3 wraps if you wash and tumble every day, but by this stage you are more likely to be washing every other day so 15 nappies and 5 wraps would be plenty.
You will notice that you do not need as many wraps as you do nappies. You do not need to use a fresh wrap at every change unless it has been soiled. Many people use two wraps during the day and alternate so that one is airing while the other is being worn.
Remember you do not need to buy everything in one go - you can build your collection up over time. Start with the minimum, then buy extras as required to make life easier!
