Glossary

Some of the more commonly used nappy terms explained.

Nappy - The towelling absorbent part which can be flat or shaped.

Wrap - Breathable waterproof outer shaped to fit snugly over the nappy.

Aplix - A brand of ‘hook and loop’ fastening, like Velcro, but stronger.

Nappi Nippa - A ‘T’ shaped plastic gripper used instead of safety pins to fasten the nappy

All in One - Nappy with waterproof wrap attached.

One-Size - A nappy that will fit baby from birth to potty.

Stuffable - Effectively a fleece lined wrap with a pouch inside that can be stuffed with a
booster or a flat terry to increase absorbency.

Booster - A shaped pad, sometimes fleece-topped that can be inserted into any nappy to increase absorbency.

Pre-fold - A three-panelled terry pad that is folded inside a well-fitting wrap.

Liner - These can be disposable, flushable or washable and are inserted into the nappy to catch the solids and draw the dampness away from baby’s bottom.
